A beautiful and diverse hiking region in the middle of Germany. East- and West Harz, formerly divided by the German border, has many different landscapes to offer.

The mountains of the Harz were always known as a great spot for hiking tours. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Heinrich Heine and Hans Christian Andersen are only a few famous personalities that already appreciated the Harz mountains for their beauty a long time ago.

An extensive net of trails is taken care of mostly by the Harzclub e.V.

Also there are long distance trails (Harzer Hexenstieg, Baudensteig, Karstwanderweg and more) that offer beautiful hiking tours for a day.

Medieval castles and half-timbering towns, hundreds of canals, lakes and ponds for the mines plus the typical wooden Harz houses are part of the cultural heritage of this region.
